Decanter California whites under £30 / $30: Panel tasting results Can the Golden State’s white wines provide value, interest and balance at the £30/$30 level? After assessing the reds last month, our panel turned their focus to mid-priced whites. Susy Atkins, Romain Bourger and Keith Kirkpatrick tasted 56 affordable California whites with 16 recommended wines. Entry criteria: producers and UK agents were invited to submit California whites, including sparkling, with availability in the UK and/or US, with a retail price of up to £30/$30 The verdict While Chardonnay (in 35 of 56 entries) dominated this tasting, it wasn’t the whole story. What to drink: Three bold and full-bodied white wines for winter

What to drink: Three bold and full-bodied white wines for winter What to drink: Three bold and full-bodied white wines for winter Many popular white wines can feel at odds with the Canadian winter. Not these three bottles By Kelsey Adams Jan 19, 2021 I think it’s safe to say we’ve collectively moved beyond arbitrary rules about drinking white wine in warmer seasons and red wine in colder seasons. In addition, winegrowers are working with their plant and planet, pushing the Go West axiom, with vineyards planted ever-closer to the cold ocean, to balance juicy ripeness with bright acidity.   While many producers employ new barrels, the wines below are no oaky monsters of yore, but richly satisfying drinks, with plush fruit, exotic spice accents, satin texture and luscious finish.

Norm s Tasting Notes: 2018 J Lohr Riverstone Chardonnay

2018 J Lohr RiverstoneArroyo Secco Chardonnay #01-2021 Subscribe About two years ago, I wrote about a Chardonnay which both I, and the Chardonnay Queen were just raving about, the 2016 J Lohr Arroyo Secco from Monterey. Well a few weeks ago we put a bottle of the 2018 vintage out with a few others, for friends to enjoy, and even though a few of the other Chardonnays were more expensive, the Arroyo Secco is the one which caught everyone s attention. So, I would say that this 2018 J Lohr would be a go to bottle , when you are looking for a California Chardonnay below $15.00 per bottle.
