The draft of a new excise tax for the electric vehicle (EV) industry is on track and is expected to be finished this year, said Lavaron Sangsnit, director-general of the Excise Department.
The new tax is aimed at stimulating demand for EVs in Thailand and wooing foreign investment into the industry, Mr Lavaron added.
The national committee in charge of the policy will hold a meeting on the EV industry this week to further push its development. The committee is chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Supattanapong Punmeechaow.
Customs officers have arrested a 34-year-old man after shutting down a triad-controlled indoor marijuana farm that could produce as much as HK$150 million worth of cannabis a year.
A citywide manhunt was taking place on Tuesday evening for at least two other men suspected of working as farmers in the three-storey house in Pat Heung, which was used to grow cannabis plants.

I USED to pay my vehicle tax at the National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) Model Branch at Clifton, Karachi. Since the pandemic started last year, the branch stopped accepting the vehicle tax for some lame reasons and guided the consumers to another branch on Korangi Road.

The Excise Department and the district police under Operation Red Rose, launched on the instructions of Rajat Aggarwal, Excise Commissioner, Punjab, conducted a special search operation against the manufacturing of illicit liquor at Cheema Kalan and Shakri villages here on Friday.
Around 11,290 kg of lahan, 1,10,750 ml of illicit liquor and a working still were recovered from the spot.
Excise Officer Navjot Bharti and DSP Iqbal Singh led the teams which consisted of 70 police personnel. Excise inspectors Amrik Singh, Parshotam Pathania and Jatinder Singh supervised the search operation.
