Sunday, June 13, with guest host Kathy Mattea at the Culture Center Theater and, for the first time since February 2020, a limited in-person audience will be allowed.
Guest artists scheduled to appear are Mississippi songwriting great
Paul Thorn, emerging folk singer and songwriter Amythyst Kiah, and West Virginia Music Hall of Fame inductee and “Some Kind Of Wonderful” songwriter,
John Ellison. More artists will be announced as they are confirmed.
Mountain Stage will record the show for national distribution later this Fall to more than 280 NPR stations.
Attendance will be limited to 25 percent capacity, or 115 tickets. Current
HUNTINGTON â A lot could have gone wrong at Fridayâs âMountain Stageâ show at Joan C. Edwards Stadium in Huntington.
Larry Groce, the host and artistic director for the radio program, said they knew they were taking on something very difficult when they made the decision in January to do the Marshall Artists Series show and be part of Huntingtonâs 150th anniversary celebration.
âWe had to get people to commit, and a lot of artists werenât ready to do that,â Groce said.
The show also was outdoors, which presented additional challenges.
âMountain Stageâ has done plenty of shows outdoors, but they donât do them often and West Virginiaâs weather â particularly at this time of year â is hard to predict more than a day or two out.

This week’s broadcast is our first new episode since last March, recorded during the pandemic. On November 1, 2020 we welcomed Chuck Prophet with Stephanie Finch, Kim Richey, S.G. Goodman and Sierra Ferrell to Charleston, W.Va. to record at the Culture Center Theater with no audience, under strict safety protocols. The results are hitting airwaves starting Friday on NPR stations.
