The story behind a hillfort in Dunkeld which was once a royal Pictish ‘power centre’ is now being explored via a series of community projects, as Gayle Ritchie discovers. Obscured by dense rhododendrons, King’s Seat hillfort was a site steeped in mystery and intrigue for many years. Hidden deep within the grounds of Dunkeld House Hotel estate and boasting dominating views over Strath Tay, locals had known of its existence for a long time, but few understood its huge significance.

Perth Museum and Art Gallery and The Fergusson Gallery will reopen on April 30 with new exhibits. The well-loved Perth City Hall will be the subject of a photographic exhibition at the museum and gallery, Generations – Making MyMuseum. Charting the varied cultural activities that have taken place in the building since it opened in 1910, subject matters range from roller discos to wrestling matches – and even Margaret Thatcher. Work has already begun to transform the City Hall into a new heritage and arts attraction. The venue is scheduled to open in 2024.
