Fall MIDxMIDWST mural festival will bring beer gardens, art downtown

Meg Wagler is starting something exciting to Springfield, and it involves a lot of paint. The Springfield woman, a visual artist herself, created the MIDxMIDWST Mural Art & Culture Festival to bring focus to public art. The two-day festival debuts Sept. 11-12, and attendees will have a close view of several artists painting murals, bands rocking out, food trucks offering tasty dishes, two beer gardens, dozens of vendors lining up and more in downtown Springfield. “We’re really trying to find ways to make it a really unique and immersive experience,” Wagler said. The live painting portion will feature nine visual artists, with two working together, to create eight murals. MIDxMIDWST is providing the artists with the prompt words “optimism,” “growth” and “community,” but otherwise, they’ll have “full creative freedom with minimal oversight,” Wagler added.
