Dwivedi inaugurates handicrafts, handlooms exhibition at Kala Kendra Dwivedi inaugurates handicrafts, handlooms exhibition at Kala Kendra Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Feb 6: Commissioner Secretary, Industries & Commerce Department, Manoj Kumar Dwivedi, inaugurated fortnight Exhibition cum Craft Mela, 2021 at Kala Kendra today. Pertinently, about 44 stalls by a number of registered artisans, weavers and cooperatives are showcasing variety of handicrafts and handloom items at the exhibition. Prominent items being exhibited at the event included Basohli paintings, Basohli pashmina, chikri wood craft, staple embroidery, modern art, papier machie and other local crafts. Speaking on the occasion, Commissioner Secretary said that events like these give craftsmen an opportunity to showcase their unique art and provide them a marketplace besides giving the public a chance to appreciate their skill.

Heritage train to chug on historical route of Jammu-Suchetgarh Shiv Chander Sharma To give fillip to the border tourism in Jammu and attract large number of Mata Vaishno Devi pilgrims, the UT Government of Jammu and Kashmir has decided to run the heritage train from Bikram Chowk in Jammu city to Suchetgarh via R S Pura on the historical route on which once train used to run from Jammu to Lahore via Sialkot (Now in Pakistan). Sialkot is just 11 km from Suchetgarh, the last town on the Indo-Pak border on the Indian side. This heritage train will be on the same pattern of Shimla-Kalka route in Himachal Pradesh in which hundreds of tourists visit daily to and fro. If the plan of the UT Government matures, shortly Jammuites as well as tourists and pilgrims will like to enjoy a ride in the heritage train to see the border and enjoy the journey passing through green fields in the most fertile and plain land which is also known for the best quality Basmati rice produced in India and abroa

With 250 cartoons from 39 countries, international cartoon exhibition on road safety held in Jammu Jammu : To spread awareness on traffic rules, a three day International Cartoon Exhibition on Road Safety has been organised in Jammu with 250 cartoons from 39 countries under the aegis of an eminent international cartoonist. A total of 150 artists took part in the exhibition. It was organised by Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) at Kala Kendra. “A total of four people are dying daily due to road accidents in Jammu and more than 30 people are getting injured due to the accidents Jammu and Kashmir. It’s a trauma and economic loss to the family, society, and nation,” N K Shil Regional Director of ICCR J&K and Ladakh said.

Rare artifacts of Dogra culture displayed at Kala Kendra Rare artifacts of Dogra culture displayed at Kala Kendra Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Dec 27: Amar Santosh Museum Udhampur and Himalayan Heritage Museum displayed rare artifacts during two-day Dogri Cuisine, Culture and Craft Festival, organized by J&K Tourism Development Corporation (JKTDC) in collaboration with Directorate of Tourism Jammu at Kala Kendra Jammu. The exhibition was inaugurated by Secretary Tourism Samad Hafeez to encourage the tourism in Jammu after beating Corona. Anil Paba, Director Amar Santosh Museum Udhampur said that rare collections, including stone tools, stone utensil, terracotta and copper objects, old maps, historical weapons, traditional instruments besides manuscripts belonging to 13th century onwards in Arabic, Persian, Sanskrit, Shards, Gurumukhi, Takri scripts.
