Things To Do: Cactus Flowers At Wonky Power

Solace featuring four new tracks which show off what the band does best: rock out. Cactus Flowers will perform as part of Wonky Power’s Live Sessions on March 18. The live sessions are open to a limited capacity and socially distanced audience who watch the band record their live stream which is available online. Jessica A.M., lead singer and guitarist of Cactus Flowers, is clearly elated that the band will be able to perform again following the lack of live show opportunities in the past year. “There s a lot of cool ways to actually get to see that performance and be a part of the stream, even if you don t feel comfortable necessarily going out. They are definitely helping to keep the scene alive in Houston and we are thankful for that,” says A.M. of Wonky Power.

First Avenue is (finally!) booking concerts again, starting with an old favorite

First Avenue is (finally!) booking concerts again, starting with an old favorite Thursday s Dinosaur Jr. announcement marked the start of post-pandemic bookings, also including a new Palace Theatre show with the Purity Ring confirmed Friday.  March 12, 2021 9:24am Text size Copy shortlink: A concert announcement by Dinosaur Jr. is nothing out of the ordinary at First Avenue, but on Thursday it generated an extraordinary amount of excitement. The Sept. 14 date with J. Mascis and his crew was the Minneapolis live music hub s first new booking to be announced in 2021. As in: It s not a postponement from 2020. It won t be a limited-capacity show with reserved tables. It s an honest-to-goodness, brand new tour date booked with the idea that fans will be able to stand elbow-to-elbow, just like they did back when COVID-19 probably would ve been mistaken for an industrial band that played the Entry back in 1988.

The promise of 2021

Copy shortlink: Live music If you re one of those people who won t be completely over the pandemic until you re crammed into a crowd of thousands of sweaty people spilling beer over each other while some band performs onstage any band at this point! then the most realistic target to set your sights on is September. That s when America s biggest festival, Bonnaroo (a bellwether for the touring industry), has been rescheduled. Locally, that s when First Avenue staff says it s booking its biggest swath of shows, including outdoor gigs. We may see other sporadic outdoor concerts before then, including big bashes like July s Twin Cities Summer Jam or August s We Fest. Indoor gigs could also return by then with modified, vaccine-related safety protocols. But September seems like the soonest that things will get back to normal, and then we can all go crazy again.
