LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) - The Cactus Theatre, in the heart of Lubbockâs Depot District, is repairing water damage from pipes that burst on Friday night.
The damage was mainly in the lobby, mostly sparing the main seating area.
âThe pipes are up here so thatâs why the water was flowing underneath the marquee,â said Darryl Holland, current owner of the establishment, originally built in 1938.
âWhen I got here and opened the front door, there was like a foot of water that just flowed out,â he said.
Historic Lubbock Venue Suffers Terrible Damage From Burst Pipes
The Cactus Theater is under repair after water pipes burst and flooded the iconic theater with several inches of water.
According to an article by KCBD, the majority of the damage occurred in the lobby when several pipes above the lobby ceiling and ticket booth unfortunately burst. Current owner Darryl Holland told the outlet about the horrific discovery, saying, When I got here and opened the front door, there was like a foot of water that just flowed out.
Holland told the outlet that he plans to have the theater repaired as soon as possible and is now waiting for insurance inspectors to assess the damage.

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) - Lubbock Fire Rescue was called to turn the water off and stop flooding at the historic Cactus Theatre on Friday night.
The call came in for an alarm activated at 8:36 p.m., with water flowing into the street. They say this may have been a water flow call, as alarms go off when water pressure changes.
Firefighters and officials with the Lubbock Water Department left the scene a little after 10 p.m. No injuries were reported.
