Search for missing hiker in Boulder County ends after rescue volunteer finds remains

Josh Hall, 27, a resident of Arvada, left for a hike at around 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 3, from the Hessie Trailhead with his dog and was reported as missing later that day. His vehicle was found, and his cell phone last pinged near the Devilâs Thumb Trail/Diamond Lake cut-off.

BOULDER COUNTY, Colo. For nearly five months, multiple search-and-rescue teams tried to find missing hiker Josh Hall. Over 700 volunteer hours spent by professional rescuers on the search itself, and that doesn t even include the amount of overhead, logistics, planning [and] organization that occurred, Rocky Mountain Rescue Group (RMRG) public information officer Drew Hildner said Saturday.

On Saturday, July 3, 2021, rescuers from Boulder County responded to three rescues west of Boulder.
At approximately 12:54 p.m. the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a hiker who was lightheaded and not feeling well while descending the Fern Canyon Trail. Rescuers hiked up the Trail and met the 69-year-old male hiker from Longmont, CO, slowly descending the trail with his companions. The hiker was medically evaluated by rescuers and all agreed to continue hiking down the trail to the Bear Canyon Road, where he and his companions were transported back to their vehicles at NCAR. The rescue took approximately one hour and forty minutes.

BOULDER COUNTY, Colo. A volunteer with a local search organization has found partial human remains that may belong to a hiker from Arvada who went missing in February, according to a release from the Boulder County Sheriff s Office (BCSO).
BCSO said a volunteer with Front Range Rescue Dogs, which according to their Facebook page provides canine search teams for missing person emergencies in the Boulder area, found the remains Thursday while preparing for a future organized search for Josh Hall.
They were found about 4.3 miles west of the Hessie Trailhead at 730 Fourth of July Road west of Nederland, according to the sheriff s office. The release said they were in a small stream about 0.3 miles off the Diamond Lake Trail.
