Woman accused of leading police on high-speed pursuit with toddler in car

WIND GAP, Pa. - A Slate Belt woman is facing charges for allegedly leading police on a high-speed pursuit while a two-year-old was in the car. Police say 30-year-old Ashley Courtright, of Wind Gap, told authorities she tried to outrun them because she only had her learner s permit. Courtright allegedly reached speeds of 117 miles-per-hour while evading police Tuesday night on Route 22 east. The pursuit came to end near the South 25th Street exit in Palmer Township. Police say two passengers were in the backseat, including the two-year-old. The relationship between Courtright and her passengers isn t clear.

The conservancy based outside Emmaus this week announced the completion of a $475,000 restoration on a nearly one-mile stretch of Oughoughton Creek. Slate Belt economic development group will pay 6 months’ rent for new businesses Updated Dec 19, 2020; For entrepreneurs looking to open a storefront in a Slate Belt borough, there may be some help available to pay the rent. Slate Belt Rising and the Community Action Committee of the Lehigh Valley have begun a pilot commercial lease subsidy program. The program has $30,000 allocated to help pay rent for the first six months of an eligible new business operation. The program will be available in Wind Gap, Pen Argyl, Bangor and Portland. Businesses will be eligible to receive up to $1,500 for rent in the first three months of operation and up to $750 for the next three months.
