Andy Le, and
Yuji Okumoto. This already looks like an indie cult classic!! Seems like a fun throwback and a clever Kung Fu dark comedy.
Here s the official US trailer (+ posters) for Quoc Bao Tran s
The Paper Tigers, direct from YouTube:
As teenagers, Kung Fu disciples Danny (Alain Uy), Hing (Ron Yuan) and Jim (Mykel Shannon Jenkins) were inseparable. Fast forward 25 years, and each one has grown into a washed-up middle-aged man seemingly one kick away from pulling a hamstring and not at all preoccupied with thoughts of martial arts or childhood best friends. But when their old master is murdered, the trio reunites, soon learning that avenging their sifu will require conquering old grudges (and a dangerous hitman still armed with ample knee cartilage) if they are to honorably defend his legacy.

LOS ANGELES For a man who grew up in Montreal, Ricky Greenwood’s fandom for a particular NFL team seems like an odd choice. And for the gay men on his sets, it also proves to be a confusing one.
“I’m a huge Bears fan,” he says, before quickly clarifying, “the Chicago Bears. I have that app on my phone, and of course I have my big beard. And I had a guy say to me on set, ‘Oh, I like bears, too!’ And I said, ‘Yeah, they don’t have a good team this year, but they can get better.’ And he’s like, ‘Oh, I’m not talking about the football team.’ There’s a lot of that kind of stuff. My brain didn’t compute that he was talking about bear men. It just makes it fun. I think they make fun of me because of that. We’re laughing a lot on set.”
Dallas-based director Alex Kinter may be fairly new on the film directing scene, but his new Poolside indie short has already generated serious buzz. The short, which delves deep into the psyche of a lonely high society woman in the 1950s, has been making the rounds through the festival circuit, winning a variety of awards, and is expected to be on Amazon Prime Video in January 2022.
Although Kinter has worked as a freelancer for 15 years, this is his first significant foray into directing a story-based film rather than a commercial one. This cinematography practice he s built up over the years seems to have benefitted his ability to bring a gorgeous story to the big screen, as Poolside has won awards like Gold Award for Best Cinematography at the Independent Shorts Awards and Best Cinematography at Across the Globe Film Festival.
Estonian filmmakers have postponed the premieres of films several times due to the restrictions, now, two premieres have moved to the summer: Priit Pääsuke s film Öölapsed was postponed to July, Rasmus Merivoo s Kratt to August.
Comedy Öölapsed distributor Katre Valgma told ERR they decided to postpone the film s premiere to summer due to the coronavirus. The film was actually finished at the end of 2020 and is waiting for the virus to recede and the cinemas to open, she said. Considering it is not known yet whether it is possible to open cinemas in May, we chose the next possible month which is July because the months fit with the topics that are covered, Valgma said and emphasized that even though the spread of the virus has mixed up the plans of the entire cinema world, they are still positively minded about the film premiering.

I for one love a high-concept horror movie. Sure, there’s nothing wrong with vampires in a castle or zombies in some post-apocalyptic city, but those are familiar. Old hat. How many knives and masks do we need?! Give me something weird; anything can be scary if you look at it through the right lens. Something that, when you read a description, you immediately have to see it. The WTF factor is strong in Elza Kephart’s horror-comedy
Slaxx, premiering this week on Shudder. It’s about haunted blue jeans that slaughter people who wear them. I mean, come on.
