Rescuers forced to put down magpie as photos show bird on a lead locked inside a cage in Queensland

Wildlife rescuers have been forced to euthanise a juvenile magpie after it was found malnourished and tied to a lead inside a small cage in a home in Queensland. The Queensland Parks and Wildlife Services were notified about the bird s condition after a tip off from the public that a magpie was being kept illegally at a home on the Gold Coast. Manager Frank Mills said the home was inspected by officers, who took the bird in May.  Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service found the malnourished magpie in Gold Coast home in May (pictured)  The magpie was occasionally placed in a small cage, connected to a lead and fed an unsuitable diet, Mr Mills said.

Pets & Animals by Brianna Morris-Grant Premium Content   A JUVENILE magpie has been euthanized after it was found placed in a small cage , kept on a lead and fed the wrong diet at a Gold Coast home for almost a year. The young bird s death has sparked pleas from wildlife officials not to feed, keep or trade native animals without relevant permits. A member of the public alerted Queensland Parks and Wildlife Services alleging the magpie was being illegally kept at a Gold Coast home. QPWS Wildlife and Threatened Species manager Frank Mills said officers had inspected the home and seized the bird in May.
