1:11 KLCC s Brian Bull reports on a global literary organization honoring U of O professor Kirby Brown on a 2018 work on Cherokee nationhood and identity during a 63-year-period. The Modern Language Association announced its latest MLA Prize for Studies in Native American Literatures, Cultures, and Languages.  An honorable mention went to Kirby Brown, an associate professor of Native American Literature at the U of O, and citizen of the Cherokee Nation.  Brown’s work, titled “Stoking the Fire: Nationhood in Cherokee Writing” presents written works following the establishment of Oklahoma as a state in 1907…whereupon many aspects of the Cherokee Nation were dissolved, including its government.
