Ogas earns fifth life-saving award from Ridgecrest Police Department Ridgecrest Daily Independent Officer Michael Ogas received his fifth life-saving award from the Ridgecrest Police Department at the Ridgecrest City Council Meeting Wednesday. Ogas previously worked as a paramedic for 9 years “so having that skill set has been invaluable to our community,” said RPD Chief Jed McLaughiln, who presented the award.  Ogas responded to a call about a possible overdose on Aug. 3, 2020 on West Church Avenue. He moved the woman, who appeared unconscious and unresponsive, from the couch to the floor and provided rescue breathing until the Kern County Fire Department and Liberty Ambulance arrived.

Propane tanks explode in Inyokern fire A fire erupted Monday morning in Inyokern, damaging multiple buildings and scorching the land around the structures.   Propane tanks caught fire and exploded, according to Kern County Fire Battalion Chief Tony Blumer. People inside were able to vacate the area safely with no injuries, Blumer added. In addition, no one was displaced from a home, according to Kern County Fire PIO Andrew Freeborn As of 5 p.m., firefighters remained at the scene extinguishing the last remnants of the fire, Freeborn said. The Kern County Fire Department was called just after 11:30 a.m. to a fire near Owens Peak and Three Pines Canyon in Inyokern, just north of Highway 395.

Kern County Fire responds to trailer fire in Ridgecrest Friday night

Ridgecrest Daily Independent The Kern County Fire Department and the Ridgecrest Police Department responded Friday night to a trailer fire at the Town and Country Trailer Park on North Norma Street in Ridgecrest.  The trailer was abandoned and empty and there did not appear to be any injuries. RPD blocked North Norma Street to run a water line across the street to assist the firefighters in extinguishing the fire. Fatal crash on Highway 14 Thursday morning Ridgecrest Daily Independent A fatal crash between a pickup truck and a big rig on Highway 14 snarled traffic Thursday morning. California Highway Patrol and other local agencies responded to reports of a head-on collision between a white pickup truck and a big rig on Highway 14 just south of the Highway 178 West intersection at around 6:45 a.m. Thursday. The Kern County Coroner was dispatched at around 7:10 a.m. It was not yet clear Thursday morning how many occupants were in the pickup and how many were killed. Kern County Fire Department engines 73, 74 and 77, as well as Liberty Ambulance were also dispatched to the scene.
