Babagouda Rudragouda Patil, farmers leader and former union minister, died in Belagavi on Friday. He was 80. He was admitted to a private hospital when he suffered fluctuations in blood pressure a week ago, his family members said.
He had represented the Belagavi Lok Sabha constituency in 1998 as a BJP nominee and served as the rural development minister in Atal Behari Vajpayee’s cabinet
Mr. Patil was at the forefront of the farmers agitation against the new farm laws. He took out a tractor rally to the Suvarna Soudha in Belagavi in protest against the union government. He gave a call to farmers to defeat the BJP that had passed `anti farmer laws’.

The partial lockdown has hit hard vegetable growers who routinely sell their produce to markets in towns in neighbouring Maharashtra and Goa.
Wholesale vegetable markets are closed or shifted and local sales are reduced. Transportation across the border is near zero.
Due to restrictions in the three States, traders and growers are suffering huge losses, said Malik Bagwan, vegetable wholesaler. With the extension of day curfew, “we will suffer further,” he said. The State government has extended Janata Curfew till May 12.
The State government extended the timings of APMC yards and wholesale and retail vegetable markets from 6 a.m. to noon . But traffic restrictions and barricades across the city have reduced footfall in vegetable markets.

AAA Sand and gravel extraction from a village not existing on the map, presentation of bills for repairs not required or carried out, and the claiming of funds by showing a completion report within three days of issuance of work order.
These are some of the allegations that find mention in a two-volume file of 570 pages submitted to the Lokayukta and the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) by an activist belonging to the Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha.
Though the complaint was filed in March and there are allegations of fraud to the tune of crores of rupees, the activist, Nage Gowda, says the authorities were yet to take cognisance of it or initiate any action. He has also drawn the attention of the Governor, the Chief Secretary, and other officials in the bureaucracy to what he suspects to be a scam.
