Smoking Scene in KGF Chapter 2 Teaser Irks Karnataka Health Department

Even as the crew members of K.G.F. Chapter 2 , an upcoming Kannada period action film written and directed by Prashanth Neel, are basking in the glory of its teaser receiving over 132 million views on YouTube since its release on January 7, the Karnataka health department has issued a show cause notice to Yash, the lead actor of the film, who plays protagonist Rocky Bhai in the movie.
The teaser has a scene where Yash blows up a row of automobiles with a machine gun and goes on to light a cigarette with the barrel of the red-hot gun.

The teaser of big budget Kannada movie K.G.F Chapter 2 may have garnered millions of views on various online platforms since its release last week, but the Karnataka State Anti-Tobacco Cell has taken exception to the visuals showing actor Yash lighting a cigarette and smoking.

Contending that the visuals showing the actor smoking a cigarette violated Section 5 of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products (Prohibition of Advertisement and Regulation of Trade and Commerce, Production, Supply and Distribution) 2003, also known as COTPA 2003, the cell has decided to seek deletion of the teaser from online platforms and also removal of posters of the film that promote smoking.

Apex Sandalwood body asked to stop taking any decision on major financial matters, except payment of salaries and day-to-day expense
The Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (
KFCC), the apex body of the Kannada film industry, has received an interim order from
the Registrar of Cooperative Societies directing it not to take decisions pertaining to financial matters except on those related to paying salaries to the staff members and day-to-day expenses till further orders.
“The KFCC should not take major decisions pertaining to financial matters with immediate effect. The general body meeting also should not be held till further orders due to the Covid-19 pandemic,’’ said SG Manjunath Singh, Registrar, Cooperative Societies, Bangalore 4th Division.
