The court issued this direction after taking serious exception to the decision of the State government to set up a commission of inquiry under the Commission of Inquiry Act, 1952, and appointing a retired judge to probe incident of 24 COVID-19 patients in Chamarajanagar without taking prior approval from the court.

Take action against illegal childcare centres: HC to Karnataka government

Updated: Share Article AAA The High Court of Karnataka has directed the State government to take immediate action against childcare centres operating in the city without registration following a disclosure that there were at least 56 such illegal centres, including one operated by an official of the Department of Public Instruction (DPI). The court also directed the government to take a decision on setting up a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe instances of child trafficking disclosed in the report on a survey, carried out on the court’s direction, of minor children engaged in begging and hawking on city streets.

While pointing out that 492 of these children are below the age of 10, the survey has pointed out that 52 children are engaged in begging as a profession, 219 children are begging or hawking on account of family problems, 76 infants are being carried by their mothers or caretakers either for begging or hawking.
