The Chinese People s Liberation Army (PLA) Navy announced on Monday that it recently conducted a live-fire exercise in the South China Sea, in which warplanes rained down thousands of munitions at maritime targets as the pilots enhanced their sea assault and precision strike capabilities.
While the announcement came only a few days after a US warship trespassed into Chinese territorial waters in the region, analysts said that it was not a targeted response, since the exercise was a regular one aimed at enhancing combat readiness, and a single US vessel is too weak to be a proper target.

Washington [US], May 22 (ANI): The United States and South Korea have agreed to cooperate on the Taiwan Strait issue, amid rising tensions in the 180-km wide waterways.
US President Joe Biden and South Korean President Moon Jae-in, who is on a visit to America, held a bilateral summit on Friday, Taiwan News reported.
At the post-summit press conference, Biden said the two talked about issues vital to regional stability, such as maintaining freedom of navigation in the South China Sea and upholding peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait, according to a joint statement.

Beijing [China], May 25 (ANI): China has expressed strong opposition to a mention of Taiwan in a joint statement issued following the in-person summit between US President Joe Biden and his South Korean counterpart Moon Jae-in. We urge relevant countries to speak and act prudentially on the Taiwan question and refrain from playing with fire, the Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Zhao Lijian said on Monday in a presser.
This reaction comes after Biden and Moon held talks at the White House last Friday following which they issued a statement emphasising the importance of preserving peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait, NHK World reported.
