Pi Beta Phi remembers impact of Carol Myers

GATLINBURG — The small plate on the little box identifying it as Charter No. 78793 has behind it the story of an educator who sought to make a big impact. Carol Myers, a library assistant at Pi Beta Phi Elementary School, established the Little Free Library outside the downtown Gatlinburg school as a passion project. She passed away last week. Principal Carey Woods says that Myers could be counted on consistently to go beyond her in-school duties. “There are so many beautiful words I can say about Carol, but I’ll just focus on her giving nature,” Woods said. “Carol established our little library for the public that is on display by our parking lot booth. Her love of reading and sharing books with our students was just one of her many passions.”

RRT returns to Missouri Theater with It s a Wonderful Life

It’s been 10 months since a Robidoux Resident Theatre production took place on the Missouri Theater stage — one of the longest absences in the theater company’s history. The lengthy layoff ends this weekend as the group intends to bring some holiday cheer with the musical version of “It’s a Wonderful Life: The Musical.” “We need this. It’s a gift to ourselves and it’s a gift to the people who choose to come to see it,” Carol Myers, director of the RRT production, said. The musical will be performed at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 11 and 12, and at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 13, at the Missouri Theater, 717 Edmond St. Masks are required and people will be placed several seats apart from each other to allow for social distance.
