William Bencic, 88, of Homer City died February 24, 2021 at St. Andrew’s Village. He was the son of the late Nicholas Sr. and Marie (Marobic) Bencic and was born July 12, 1932 in Homer City.
William was a member of the Homer City American Legion Post #493 and the Red Barn Sportsman Club. He was an Army Veteran having served in the Korean War and was employed at Westinghouse for over 39 years.
William is survived by four children, Carol Jackson and husband Gary, Blairsville; Joyce Ball and husband Robert, Winchester, VA; Dale William Bencic and wife Tracey, Homer City and Christine Dow and husband Allen, Indiana. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
Edison State accounting students look to gain hands-on experience preparing taxes

PIQUA – This semester, students in Edison State Community College’s accounting program will prepare taxes as part of a service-learning project at the Partners In Hope site location for the community-at-large, in partnership with the Dayton Coalition Program (VITA/EITC).
VITA’s origins date back to 1969 with a precursor program at California State University, Northridge. Such programs have since spread to thousands of locations across the country, with IRS-certified volunteers providing free help with tax returns to low- and moderate-income taxpayers, as well as people with disabilities, the elderly and limited English speakers.

WILLIAMSBURG Through nearly 10 decades, nearly 98 years until she passed Saturday, Feb. 6, 2021, from the turmoil of the Great Depression through the COVID-19 pandemic, Carol Jackson Smith brightened the lives of her loving family and countless friends who knew her through time and across the miles.
To meet Carol, even once, was to become her dance partner. She was genuinely interested in every person who knocked on, or came through her door. And, if that didn’t happen, she would spot you through a window and shout, “hello!” Carol loved life, loved living, and lived to love others.
She caught the eye of Robert “Bob” Smith in the post World War II years when they worked together at a local theater. Married in 1949, they brought Carol Dawn (spouse: Richard), Rob (spouse: Shirley), and Donna (spouse: Mike) into the world and built a loving home as they traveled with Bob’s T.V. career on the East Coast and Midwest.
