NEW business units on the outskirts of Chester have been fully let. Over the past months Cheshire West and Chester Council has dealt with many inquiries from companies keen to invest in the borough by locating here or moving to larger premises. As a result units 1 – 21 Europa Court are now fully let at the new Dee View Trade and Industrial Park, Chester. The units by Bumpers Lane were built using Cheshire West and Chester Council’s Property Reinvestment Programme (PRP) Funding and European Regional Development Funding (ERDF) The ERDF funding enabled the construction of smaller business units for SME’s in a market where there was a demand but no availability.
CHARGES for extra care services in some Cheshire West facilities have been extended with the most talked-about fee being a weekly £6 bill for the use of the pull-cord. The reason why this charge is that residents and ward councillors have questioned the legality of it with a member of the ruling Labour cabinet’s own group raising the issue at a meeting of the council’s leadership. Now, one resident has told the Local Democracy Reporting Service of her disappointment at the decision although CWAC maintains the charge is on sound legal footing.
What was said at cabinet? With the item being brought forward for approval by cabinet those councillors in charge of running various departments Cllr Martyn Delaney challenged his Labour party colleagues over the move.

Revised social care charges have been approved. A REVISED adult social care charging policy has been adopted by Cheshire West’s cabinet – despite concerns over the legality of some fees. The policy includes a weekly £6 ‘extra care charge’ for the use of an emergency pull-cord, which residents and councillors say should have been agreed on an ‘opt-in’ basis. However, emails seen by the Local Democracy Reporting Service show that senior councillors say ‘the nature of an emergency pull cord response system is not suitable for an opt in arrangement as care would be delivered in an emergency to any resident of an extra care scheme’.
WORK on the new public services hub at the site of the recently demolished former Ellesmere Port bus station remains on track despite the challenges brought by the Covid-19 pandemic. The hub, which is due to house more than 500 Cheshire West and Chester Council and Department for Work and Pensions staff, is expected to be completed by the end of the year. The construction of the hub and the new bus interchange along Civic Way form part of a £16m regeneration project, of which half has come from the Government’s Local Growth Fund through the Cheshire and Warrington Local Enterprise Partnership.
