The January 12 meeting in the governmental center included election of a new chairman and vice chairman for the school board, both by unanimous vote with Joey Haynes tapped to be the new chair and William “Bill” Sturgill elected to the vice chair position. The board also approved Superintendent Dr. Mark Burnette’s proposal to have students return to in-person learning on January 25, four days a week.

The Carroll County School Board has approved a measure in support of Superintendent Dr. Mark Burnette’s proposal to have students return to in-person learning four days a week beginning January 25. Students will participate remotely on Wednesdays, which will allow for deep cleaning in county schools due to the COVID-19 epidemic.
“To stand here and tell you that the state of the county is currently strong would be misleading,” Commissioner President Ed Rothstein, R-District 5, said. “With that said, I believe that Carroll countians are extremely resilient, and by working together, neighbor to neighbor . we will be successful through county citizenship."
