X Factor s REAL winners and what happened to those that finished first

For 16 years The X Factor crowned Britain s biggest new singing stars, promising them fame and riches beyond their wildest dreams. But for many their moment in the limelight was brief. Today former contestants are queuing up to hit out against the British music industry for exploiting and treating them like cattle since their overnight rise to fame. Rebecca Ferguson has called for an urgent parliamentary inquiry to help protect young and emerging artists and an independent tribunal to hold those responsible for poor treatment within the industry to account.  Her fellow contestant Cher Lloyd, 27, and double act Jedward, both 29, who appeared on the show the previous year, have now also hit out at the industry and claimed they were also poorly treated. 

Storytelling project supports community nurse wellbeing amid Covid-19

Community nurses in Scotland have harnessed the power of storytelling to help them deal with the emotional demands of working during the coronavirus pandemic and have launched a new video to share their experiences. When the pandemic first hit the UK more than a year ago, the Queen’s Nursing Institute Scotland funded a creative project to support community nurses in the country to manage the high levels of ongoing stress they were experiencing. “The development of a resource to help nurses cope with psychological trauma in the workplace couldn’t have been timelier” Karen Stout Spearheaded by nursing lecturers at the Queen Margaret University, the SEEDS project saw eight community nurses attend a series of workshops which used a combination of storytelling and practice development exercises.

All that quality time together assembling jigsaw puzzles and playing card games, well, it s apparently good for your brain, for keeping it healthy. To try this out anecdotally, NPR s Jason Fuller and his wife Kandis Wallace Fuller masked up and got to some spades-playing with her family in Chesapeake, Va. JASON FULLER, BYLINE: When you hear the sound of cards being shuffled in the South. (SOUNDBITE OF CARDS SHUFFLING) FULLER: There s a strong chance a competitive game of spades is underway. Under basic rules, the two of spades is the ultimate trump card, followed by the ace, king, queen and jack. But all bets are off because, well, we re playing with the big and little jokers, something that requires a bit more brainpower.
