Two Syrian refugee families who touched down in Timaru in June were greeted at the airport by more than 30 people.
Timaru is expected to welcome another refugee family within the next few months as the Government resumes its refugee quota programme. Presbyterian Support South Canterbury (PSSC) refugee settlement manager Fiona Jackson said she did not yet know exactly when more refugees would be coming to Timaru – but was “excited” by Immigration New Zealand’s announcement that in the coming days, displaced families would again be arriving in the country for a fresh start. “We’re ready, capable, and looking forward to welcoming more families into our wonderful community,” Jackson said.

With his 1968 book âThe Economics of Interdependenceâ and his other writings of that period, economist Richard N. Cooper promoted cooperation among nations, even when doing so required considerable effort.
âThe trend toward greater economic interdependence among countries will require substantial changes in their approach to foreign policy in the next decade or so,â he wrote in a 1972 article for the journal World Politics.
His publications on the topic can be seen as âthe original foundation of the study of international cooperation or coordination of macroeconomic policy,â Jeffrey A. Frankel a friend and a Harvard Kennedy School professor, wrote recently in an online tribute to Dr. Cooper.
Proposed design for Sky Studios Elstree Hertfordshire construction firm BAM has won a £192 million contract to build the the most sustainable film and TV studio in the world . BAM has been appointed by Sky, NBC Universal, and Legal & General to construct Sky Studios Elstree; a new home of film and TV production. The studios, off Rowley Lane in Borehamwood, is set to open in 2022 and will house 13 soundstages, reportedly set to attract £3 billion worth of production spend in the first five years of operation. BAM, which is headquartered in Hemel Hempstead, says it has been selected to create Sky Studios Elstree due to its expertise in constructing large scale projects.
Bam Construct has been confirmed on a £192m film and TV studio job for Sky in Elstree, Hertfordshire – one of the contractor’s largest ever contracts.
The development, which was announced in December 2019, will include 13 stages to host various TV and film productions at once across 20,000 square feet. The project will also include production offices, a screening cinema, a set-construction workshop and state-of-the-art post-production and digital facilities when it opens in 2022.
The contractor has been appointed by Sky, its sister firm NBC Universal and investment partner Legal & General.
Studio construction is undergoing a period of growth currently with schemes recently announced in Enfield and Dagenham in London, as well as Reading in Berkshire. Laing O’Rourke is on site delivering a studio project at the former Littlewoods headquarters in Liverpool.
