It comes after the Ministry of Health announced on Saturday evening that there is a new case of COVID-19 in the community - Case M, the older sibling of a Papatoetoe High School student. Their mother has also tested positive. It s still unclear how Case M became infected, and due to the lack of a lack of clear epidemiological link and the long time period they could have been infectious for, Ardern has instituted another strict lockdown.

Update On Auckland Checkpoints

While there have been some expected delays, Police report the public have been cooperative and understanding. Eight checkpoints were set up around Auckland’s regional boundaries as the Alert Level 3 restrictions came into effect at midnight. Police are in the process of setting up additional checkpoints, and refining the location of existing checkpoints to ensure they are as close as possible to the boundary. These will all be in place by 6:00pm this evening, and will remain in place until midnight Wednesday 17 February. Checkpoints re-established as Auckland enters Alert Level 3 Monday, February 15, 2021 IWK Bureau Police have re-established road checkpoints in and out of the Auckland region as Alert Level 3 restrictions came into effect at midnight. Currently, the Auckland region is under Alert Level 3 which restricts any travel outside or inside the super-city unless travelling for work or getting essential services.  The boundaries will be set mostly in the same locations as the last time Auckland was in Alert Level 3 in August. Eight checkpoints on the outskirts of Auckland will be stopping vehicles and questioning drivers, ensuring there is no non-essential movement through the region.
