At the start of the pandemic in March we took the decision to make online access to our news free of charge by taking down our paywall. At a time where accurate information about Covid-19 was vital to our community, this was the right decision – even though it meant a drop in our income. In order to help safeguard the future of our journalism, the time has now come to reinstate our paywall, However,
rest assured that access to all Covid related news will still remain free.
To access all other news will require a subscription, as it did pre-pandemic. The good news is that for the whole of December we will be running a special discounted offer to get 3 months access for the price of one month. Thank you for supporting us during this incredibly challenging time.
A VITAL community hub which helped to reduce isolation and loneliness in 2020 is set to support even more people this year. The team at Inverclyde Shed got involved in a myriad of eco-focused activities in communities across the district last year. Shed members didn t let the coronavirus pandemic stop them from keeping in touch and working on lots of different initiatives. From building orchards and setting up a digital shed, to delivering vegetables to the elderly and creating a remembrance garden, the team s dedication made life better for hundreds of people. Chairman Bruce Newlands says the Shed - crowned Scottish Men s Shed Association Shed of the Year in October - is a community where people can be comfortable and share their interests.
A SERIAL offender who is barred from approaching all women has gone unpunished for breaching an anti-social behaviour order by repeatedly targeting a young female in Gourock. Alexander McCullough, 54, continually pestered the 28-year-old by turning up at her home - after initially approaching her with an offer of fresh fish that he d caught. McCullough who has racked up nearly 50 convictions was made subject to an ASBO prohibiting any unsupervised contact or communication with women in 2011. He went to the woman s flat on a number of occasions between October 30 and December 4 in 2019 and made her feel uncomfortable . But despite the blatant flouting of the now decade-old ASBO, McCullough, of Shore Street in Gourock, has been admonished at Greenock Sheriff Court.
NEW parking rules in Port Glasgow town centre have today been welcomed by two local councillors. Chris Curley and Jim MacLeod say a move to introduce a three hour restriction in two of the town s busiest car parks will help traders recover from the Covid-19 crisis. The new limit is set to be imposed on weekdays for both Fore Street and Shore Street, with a disc display scheme introduced. Councillors Curley and MacLeod believe this will benefit both residents living in the town centre and shoppers. The introduction of the new three hour rule follows concerns from local retailers and residents about lack of available spaces.
