The cash has been injected into the authority’s budget at the 11th hour to improve the borough’s highways. Councillor Patrick Harley, leader of Dudley Council, hopes it will target hundreds of potholes across miles of residential streets and pay for some complete resurfacing of roads. He said: We need a real purge on potholes across the borough which is why I have decided to add £1million to the budget. When we started setting the budget last year we were very clear about investing in areas that are important to people. This is a massive investment, to add to the commitments we have already made, and I am sure will be welcomed by everyone using the roads.

The work is being carried out at Leasowes Park, off Mucklow Hill, today (Wednesday February 3) after concerns were raised about the state of the car park. The car park will remain open today, but the amount of spaces will be restricted. Councillor Karen Shakespeare, Dudley Council s cabinet member for public realm, said: “Following concerns raised about the car park surface, we will be carrying out repairs to fill the potholes today. “The car park will remain open while the work is carried out, however the number of spaces will be restricted.

Pic - Dudley Council A MAN caught on camera dumping a fridge in a country lane in Cradley and Wollescote has been ordered to pay £400. Covert CCTV cameras were installed in Foxcote Lane in October in response to an increase in fly-tipping in the area. The cameras caught a man in a van depositing a fridge freezer in the lane. He accepted liability and was fined £400. The covert cameras are being despatched to hotspots round the borough to catch people in the act of breaking the law.

The damaged trees A DUDLEY Council chief has hit out at mindless vandals who attacked new trees days after they were planted at a Halesowen park. Four new trees were snapped off and grass was churned up by an off-road biker at Hope Street park - leading to calls for CCTV and police patrols by angry residents and councillors. Councillor Karen Shakespeare, Dudley Council s cabinet member for environmental, highways and street services, responded to calls for action over the vandalism and hit out at the selfish individuals involved. She said she hopes the trees, which the council planted, will regrow despite the damage.
