Neil Falcone takes over from company veteran Doug Wille as CFO
Retail grocery cooperative Wakefern Food Corp. has appointed Neil Falcone as chief financial officer and Karen Meleta as chief communications officer, a newly created position.
Keasbey, N.J.-based Wakefern said Friday that Falcone, formerly vice president of ShopRite Financial Services (SFS) and corporate finance, succeeds Douglas Wille, who retired as CFO after serving in that role since 2007.
Wakefern noted that Falcone (left) brings significant retail experience to the CFO role, in which he and his finance team are developing key tools and technology to provide financial services and analysis for the cooperative’s members and supermarket banners.
Giant adopts HowGood ratings system, Wakefern joins Beyond the Bag
A pair of regional grocers, The Giant Company and Wakefern Food Corp., have embarked on new efforts to reduce waste and promote sustainable retailing.
Carlisle, Pa.-based Giant, part of Ahold Delhaize USA, has adopted the HowGood ratings system to help customers gauge product sustainability while shopping. Meanwhile, Wakefern the parent of the ShopRite supermarket chain has joined the Beyond the Bag Initiative, a coalition to find eco-friendly options to the single-use plastic shopping bag now used by mass retailers nationwide.
