Group sues Yale over race-conscious admissions and seeks cert in Harvard suit

Group sues Yale over race-conscious admissions and seeks cert in Harvard suit   Image from Shutterstock.com. Students for Fair Admissions has filed a lawsuit challenging race-conscious admissions policies at Yale University less than a month after the U.S. Department of Justice dropped a bias suit that it filed against the school during the Trump administration. The nonprofit group’s Feb. 25 suit claims that Yale discriminates against Asian American and white applicants, report the New Haven Register, Law360 and a press release. The suit alleges that Yale is violating Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which bars discrimination in programs that receive federal financial assistance.

Supreme Court is asked to bar race-based admissions in Harvard case

Supreme Court is asked to bar race-based admissions in Harvard case Greg Stohr and Patricia Hurtado, Bloomberg Feb. 25, 2021 FacebookTwitterEmail Opponents of Harvard College s affirmative action policies asked the Supreme Court to bar colleges from using race as an admissions factor, setting up what could be a defining showdown for higher education and the court s conservative majority. The appeal by Students for Fair Admissions asks the court to overturn the 2003 ruling that let universities keep using race-conscious admissions to diversify their student bodies. A federal appeals court rejected the group s lawsuit, which contends Harvard is violating federal civil rights laws by intentionally discriminating against Asian-Americans in undergraduate admissions.
