Carlisle City Council has set its budget for the next financial year. At a special full council meeting last night, members heard that the authority has successfully achieved or identified over £9 million in savings since 2010/11. A revised savings requirement has been calculated of £500,000 in 2021/22; increasing to £1.2million.
People urged not to litter beauty spots during lockdown
People are being urged to take their litter home while visiting parks and nature reserves.
Gareth Ellis, a Carlisle City Councillor for Belah and Kingmoor, said in just one morning at one entrance of Kingmoor Nature Reserve, he collected two large bags of litter.
He said: “During lockdown there has been an increase in people using parks and nature reserves, unfortunately that has come with an increase in people littering.
“But we all must do our bit. Take your litter home, pick up dog mess and put it in a bin.

These grants, paid out to businesses that have been affected by the disruption brought about by Covid-19, are financed by central Government but applications are handled by the city council. The council is continuing to make payments to businesses affected by the pandemic, including the new top-up grants that were announced earlier this month.

More than £37 million has so far been paid out to Carlisle businesses affected by the coronavirus pandemic by the city council.
The council is continuing to make payments from government schemes they are administering. They are also asking local businesses to check their eligibility for the various grants funding available.
Where appropriate, automatic payments are being made to businesses using details supplied through online applications for the range of grants available.
Payments are continuing to be made to businesses, including the top-up-grants announced earlier this month.
Any business that has not previously applied for any of the following grants is asked to check their eligibility and apply online.
