According to park officials, the incident occurred on April 17 when rangers at Kruger National Park spotted three men reportedly attempting to poach rhinos. The suspected poachers dropped an axe and a bag with their provisions as they ran away. Rangers arrested one of the suspects with the assistance of an aircraft and trained canines, before he told the rangers he wasn t sure if his partners had managed to escape. The rangers found a second suspect badly trampled, who had succumbed to his injuries.

Several other poaching suspects armed with hunting rifles and an ax were arrested by authorities, as the park continues to crack down on criminal activity in the country that sees a rhino killed every day. Officials at the park, which has the majority of the world s rhino population, have long warned about the dangers of illegal entry. Gareth Coleman, the park s managing executive, said in a statement released Monday that the weekend had brought fruitful anti-poaching operations, adding that several suspected rhino poachers had been arrested and one had died of injuries sustained in the trampling.

Officials from Kruger National Park in South Africa said in a statement that a poaching suspect died after being trampled on by a group of elephants in the national park on Saturday.The three suspects were fleeing from the park rangers when they encountered the elephant herd. Officials said one of the poaching suspects was arrested, while the third suspect is still at large.
It is reported that these poachers are not suspected of poaching elephants, but rhinos.
A rifle was also recovered by park rangers.
One suspect was subsequently arrested and and he told rangers that the group had run into a herd of elephants and was not sure if his accomplice had managed to escape .
The man s suspected accomplice was later discovered badly trampled and dead from his injuries.
A third suspect escaped the scene and a search for him is underway. It s believed he suffered an eye injury in the incident. The campaign against poaching is the responsibility of all us; it threatens many livelihoods, destroys families and takes much-needed resources to fight crime, which could be used for creating jobs and development, Gareth Coleman, managing executive of Kruger National Park, said in a statement.
