Black Stone Cherry Co-Founding Bassist Jon Lawhon Exits the Band
Black Stone Cherry will be down one familiar face when they return to the road as the band has announced that longtime bassist Jon Lawhon (pictured middle right) has decided to take an indefinite sabbatical from the group.
Lawhorn is one of the core four members of the group who initially formed in 2001. He s been with the band through seven studio albums, two EPs and two live releases, most recently playing on 2020 s
The Human Condition album.

It is with a heavy heart that we inform you that Jon Lawhon has decided to take an indefinite sabbatical from music and touring for personal reasons. As such, Jon will be stepping down as a member of Black Stone Cherry.

In a statement posted Wednesday morning, the Kentucky rockers announced that Lawhon is taking âan indefinite sabbatical from music and touring for personal reasons.â
âWe love Jon, wish him all the best in all his future endeavors and will cherish the memories and legacy weâve built with him over twenty years as a band,â the statement continues. âWe ask that you please respect Jon and the bandâs privacy regarding this matter.â
Lawhon is an original member of Black Stone Cherry, and has played on all the bandâs albums. In fact, Lawhonâs departure marks the first change in Black Stone Cherryâs lineup since the group was founded in 2001.

Against the Wall album recently became the first rock debut album to crack the Top 20 of the U.K. charts since Greta Van Fleet arrived on the scene in 2018. They re also the first U.K. rock act to have debuted inside the Top 20 since Royal Blood did so back in 2014.
So who are Mason Hill, how did they get here, why should they be on your radar and why are they here to stay? The roots of the band date back to their teen years when vocalist Scott Taylor and guitarist James Bird met in school in Scotland. By 2013, they started their band, adding drummer Craig McFetridge, bassist Matthew Ward and guitarist Marc Montgomery along the way.
