The sobering news is the latest blow for the Porcupine Health Unit region which has seen an explosion in cases in the past week, including outbreaks at four schools, the Glencore Kidd Operations Mine Site in Timmins and the Township of Black River-Matheson. There are now 99 active cases in the region, which takes in the entire district of Cochrane, including Timmins, Cochrane, Hearst, Kapuskasing and Black River-Matheson. Since Thursday, the Porcupine Health Unit has reported 67 cases – the vast majority of them inside that triangle.  They bump up the pandemic total to 490.  Twelve cases on Sunday brought it to that mark.  Two of the 12 are in Timmins; the rest between Smooth Rock Falls and Matheson along Hwy. 11

Four of them are linked to a school outbreak in Iroquois Falls, two of them involve Timmins residents, while the remaining six of them involve other residents from the Matheson-Iroquois Falls-Cochrane-Smooth Rock Falls area (one of them linked to an outbreak in that area).
