Rolling Stone about the Record Store Day collaboration, Soundgarden guitarist Kim Thayil and drummer Matt Cameron shared their admiration for Carlile’s cover of Searching With My Good Eye Closed, “one of Chris [Cornell’s] greatest songs.”
“That was Brandi’s choice and it was a good one,” Cameron said. “‘Searching With My Good Eye Closed’ is one of Chris’ greatest songs, it has so much depth. It’s a colossus.

Lyrics aren t always meant to be taken literally. Nobody should have to endure some obnoxious guy at a bar pedantically explaining that the sun never goes around the moon. (I don t know why you re at a bar that plays Vanessa Williams songs from two decades ago, but just go with it.)
But some artists just get it plain wrong. Whether it s due to lack of research, laziness or simply a strident desire to stick to the rhyme scheme, there are occasions where creative license turns to pure fiction.

Cornell has had a series of Number Ones with both Audioslave (âLike A Stoneâ and âBe Yourselfâ) and Soundgarden (âBlack Hole Sunâ, âBlow Up The Outside Worldâ, âBurden In My Handâ, âLive to Riseâ, âBeen Away Too Longâ and âBy Crooked Stepsâ). His reworking of âPatienceâ is his first as a lead solo artist.
