KANSAS CITY, Mo. â The COVID-19 pandemic has taken a heavy toll on many small businesses in the Kansas City area.
Some have struggled to secure loans through the Paycheck Protection Program, while others have closed for good as the financial stresses of the pandemic proved too great to overcome.
To address some of these issues facing Black-owned small businesses, community leaders conducted a forum Thursday at the Bruce R. Watkins Community Center to talk about solutions.

Eat, drink and support: Houston Black Restaurant Week spotlighting about 100 local businesses

HOUSTON – Houston Black Restaurant Week is back and bigger.
The culinary experience highlights about 100 Black-owned businesses from across Houston, Galveston and Beaumont. The event is set for April 2-11.
Customers can dine-in, order delivery or takeout at any of the businesses. Participating restaurants will provide prix-fixe brunch, lunch, and dinner menus. Prices and offerings vary.
This year, the organizers expanded to also spotlight food trucks, sweets, and other Black-owned businesses.

Organizers are also presenting The Soundbites Food Truck Park, in partnership with The Power Center Food Truck Park at 12401 South Post Oak Road, from April 2 to April 4 and April 9 to April 11.

SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) - Despite the leisure and hospitality industry still struggling during the coronavirus pandemic, Florida’s unemployment rate continues to improve as vaccinations increase and people return to the workforce.
The state Department of Economic Opportunity reported Monday that Florida’s unemployment rate decreased to 4.8% in January, down 0.3 percentage points from a revised December rate.
