Dolores Cuddy Folkerts, 94, matriarch and our erudite teacher has been chosen by God this day January 18, 2021, to be our family’s guiding angel. She was born on December 18, 1926, in Alton, the daughter of the late James Garth and Verna (Roberts) Cuddy. Survivors include a daughter: Patricia C. Paustian of Roxana, a son: John G. Folkerts of Roxana, three grandchildren: Abigail A. Paustian, Amanda K. Paustian (Brian Sellers), Melissa E. Paustian, two great grandchildren: Daniel R. Welborn, Kaitlin A. Welborn, a brother: Jerry Ivan Cuddy (Teresa Cuddy)
She acquired a number of diplomas from Blackburn College, Shurtleff College, and SIUE. As a teacher she taught with love and humor. For those fortunate enough to partake in one of her classes, be it anywhere from kindergarten to Senior in High School, they had fun learning. As a guidance counselor she helped many find their niche and pointed them in the right direction. She retired as Madison School District Ass
THE ‘devastated’ family of a Blackburn businessman who was shot dead in Pakistan are determined to make sure his legacy lives on a year after his death. Jahangir Hussain ran a takeaway in Rawtenstall with his brother Qadeer but he died after he was attacked in Jhelum on January 9. Mr Hussain still has a family home in Blackburn but more recently cared for his mother in the Punjab. The 29-year-old was attacked as he left his mother’s home and she was also shot but survived the attack. Jahangir s sister Nazia Kausar and brother Qadeer Hussain have told how they are still having sleepless nights thinking about the former Blackburn College student.

A Blackburn charity has launched a new Career Academy aiming to create job opportunities for young people. The International Learning Movement (ILM) UK Career Academy was launched as a response to the Covid-19 which has impacted directly the education sector. The charity which is based the Enterprise Centre said, Times are difficult for all, and many companies are focusing their capacity to overcome the economic crisis the pandemic has brought and cannot facilitate support to the students to complete their curriculum.
