Before temperatures dropped to 0 in Lubbock early Monday, the charity opened its cold cot program to 46 people who sought refuge from the dangerously cold weather.
The program activates when weather drops below freezing, Hitt said.
Among those at the Salvation Army who found respite from the bitter weather was a couple and their three dogs spotted by the charity s Cold Patrol at the downtown library.
A total of 14 pets 13 dogs and one cat came with their owners, Hitt said.
