Article content When Hastings County Historical Society’s “Preserve Your Memories for Future Generations” plea arrived in our mail I thought it a terrific idea but, immediately wondered whose accounts would materialize as HCHS sincerely seeks “stories of 250 – 400 words” in an effort to chronicle local citizens’ experiences which “can make for interesting and valuable stories for future generations.” Because, for generations our archives’ focus has been predominantly, and practically, white, and European. This community call for historical tales then – and today is merely history on the hum, offers opportunities for residents whose experiences aren’t as well-represented, obvious or even known, those who don’t come from a Caucasian Christian collective most locals claim.
