Oscar winner Viola Davis is working on a memoir that she says will be “straight, no chaser.”
HarperOne will release Davis’
Finding Me on April 19, 2022. Davis traces her rise from growing up in poverty and family violence in Rhode Island to becoming one of the world’s most acclaimed actors.
She won an Oscar for her starring role in the 2016 film adaptation of August Wilson’s drama
Fences, an Emmy for
Fences and
King Hedley II.
“I believe that our stories, and the courage to share them, is the most powerful empathetic tool we have,” she said in a statement. “This is my story … straight no chaser.”
Viola Davis is set to release a memoir in April 2022.
The 55-year-old actress will release âFinding Meâ on April 19 next year through HarperOne, which will tell the story of her rise from growing up in poverty and family violence in Rhode Island to becoming one of the worldâs most acclaimed actors.
In a statement, she said: âI believe that our stories, and the courage to share them, is the most powerful empathetic tool we have. This is my story ⦠straight no chaser.â
âFinding Meâ will be released in partnership with Ebony Magazine Publishing.

On Tuesday, HarperOne announced that Davis’ forthcoming memoir,
Finding Me, will be released on April 19, 2022 in partnership with Ebony Magazine Publishing. Described as a story of “overcoming,” Davis’ book will share details of her “incredible, inspiring life from her coming-of-age in Rhode Island to her present-day career.”
“I’m an artist because there’s no separation from me and every human being that has passed through the world. I have a great deal of compassion for other people, but mostly for myself,” Davis says in a statement.
