Voter Access: INEC commences nationwide verification of voting points

Ahead of its decision to enhance greater voter access to polling units and reduce voter apathy, the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC has commenced a nationwide verification exercise of voting points that have been proposed for conversion to polling units.
INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, disclosed this on Tuesday when he visited some of the voting points within the Federal Capital Territory and Karu in Nasarawa State.
He said; “All the National Commissioners are out, visiting the states of the Federation to verify the work of converting the voting points to polling units.

Professor Josiah Ajiboye, Registrar, Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN), says Nigerian teachers are currently becoming more competitive globally.
Ajiboye, disclosed this at the end of the opening of a one-day training workshop for Education Correspondents’ Association of Nigeria (ECAN) on Friday in Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
He noted that the narrative about the proficiency of Nigerian teachers had begun to change due to innovations being introduced to keep them at par with their counterparts globally.
He said that unlike before those Nigerian teachers had to undergo a certain level of training abroad before being offered appointments, but now they were being offered jobs straight up.

UN-Habitat and SIDA deliver six completed COVID-19 Response WASH projects in Karu, Nigeria

Karu, Nigeria, 22 April 2021 - Water, Sanitation and Hygiene facilities have been completed and handed over to communities in Karu Local Government Area on the outskirts of Nigeria’s capital Abuja, under a project funded by the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA) and implemented by UN-Habitat.
The project is part of UN-Habitat Regional Office for Africa’s COVID-19 Response and Resilient Recovery strategy, in partnership with Tulsi Chanrai Foundation and the Karu Local Government.
At a ceremony held in Karu to mark the handing-over of the facilities, the State Governor Abdullahi Sule, represented by the State Commissioner for Works, Housing and Transport Chief Phillip Dada, stressed that “Water is Life,” and pledged the administration’s commitment to build on the project to expand the provision of urban basic services and guarantee a healthier life for resident

The National Lottery Trust Fund (NLTF) has donated some vital medical equipment to New Karu Primary Healthcare Centre in Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
The Executive Secretary of (NLTF), Dr Bello Maigari, said the handing over of the 34 equipment was a significant milestone in the funding of lottery good causes project in the country.
Maigari announced the items donated to include one digital X-ray, 10 kidney discs, five thermometers, 10 HIV kits, one colour ultrasound machine and one genotype machine among other medical equipment.
“The essence of the intervention is to provide vital medical equipment to under-served communities to save lives and reserve the deteriorating health conditions leveraging the use of hi-tech diagnostic equipment,” he said.
