Jul 13, 2021 A Closer Look at the Hemp Industry from Multiple Perspectives Since an amendment to the Misuse of Drugs Act was presented in the House of Representatives on July second, the cannabis discussion which includes industrial hemp and marijuana has returned to its starting point.  There are many who support a gradual move by the Government of Belize to legalize the cultivation, trade and possession of marijuana.  There are also legitimate businessmen who appreciate the economic opportunities that the hemp industry can bring to the country and, of course, there is also the church whose position has remained steadfast from the onset.  Tonight, we take a look at the plant at the heart of this controversial issue and visit a farm poised and ready for the new industry.  News Five’s Isani Cayetano reports.

Jul 7, 2021 Families to Benefit from Seashore Park Upgrade The Ministry of Blue Economy, Belize City Council and the Caribbean Shores area representative have joined forces to improve the Seashore Park in Buttonwood Bay.  News Five’s Duane Moody reports on the plans to retrofit the area with features reflecting the ministry.   Kareem Musa, Area Representative, Caribbean Shores “On this side of the park we are going to have the blue economy features and then on this side the civil aviation features. So we are going to have concrete dolphins, fish so that the kids can play on. We are going to have an actual tower, a civil aviation tower and we are going to have some small little planes; installation of some airplanes and helicopters and that sort of thing. And then on the top of this roof, which to me is the greatest feature is an actual painting of the blue hole.”

Musa Says He Expected Pushback on Marijuana Bill

Jul 7, 2021 Kareem Musa Following its presentation in the House of Representatives last week Friday, the conversation on the legalisation of marijuana as an economic opportunity has been getting pushback from various sectors, including the churches. Today, the media caught up with Minister of New Growth Industries Kareem Musa, who introduced the bill in the House. He says that the reaction was expected, but he believes the benefits of allowing cultivation, production and sale of ganja outweighs the cons.   Kareem Musa, Minister of New Growth Industries “I totally respect the view of the churches. I am certainly not surprised by the position that they have taken and have been vocal about, in particular Pastor Wade; it is no secret how he feels about it.
