One of the men nabbed over the infamous tomato tins ecstasy haul has failed to overturn his conviction after he appealed partly due to the involvement of barrister-turned-informer Nicola Gobbo in his case.
Jan Visser was jailed for at least eight years in 2014 after being found guilty of conspiring to possess 15 million ecstasy tablets stashed in tomato tins shipped on the MV Monica from Italy in 2007.

Visser appealed his conviction on a couple of grounds. He had obtained new statements from two of his co-conspirators â Pasquale Barbaro and Saverio Zirilli â that claimed Visser thought there was illegal tobacco in the containers and not ecstasy.
