A wedding hall, Ghulab Gee, illegally constructed in Karachi s Korangi was demolished Tuesday afternoon. The anti-encroachment cell of the Karachi Development Authority has commenced an operation against illegally constructed wedding halls in the city. The hall was located in the E-50 sector of the neighbourhood. According to a KDA spokesperson, 45 other wedding halls in the area have been built against the law and will soon be demolished.

Reuters/File ISLAMABAD: Apparently responding to the remarks made by the Senate deputy chairman on Saturday, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has repudiated a “malicious propaganda campaign” being carried out in a section of media to malign the anti-graft watchdog by casting lopsided aspersions over the bureau. A NAB spokesman said in a statement on Sunday that the bureau would not bow down before any propaganda campaign about its working. The context used in some of the said media reports was premised on deliberate conjecturing and assumptions based on cherry picked surmises which were far from facts and aimed only to discredit NAB, he said.

2020 saw major judgments from superior courts in Sindh Karachi January 11, 2021 Although the Covid-19 pandemic affected the working of the civil and criminal courts in Sindh during 2020, the judiciary managed to dispose of around 24,807 cases at the Sindh High Court (SHC) and 258,906 cases in the district courts during the year. The backlog of pending cases, the number of which was 83,944 in the SHC and 93,960 in the district judiciary at the start of 2020, could not be reduced significantly at the end of the year due to the Covid-19 pandemic as at the end of November, the balance of cases remained at 81,180 cases in the SHC and 113 894 cases in the district judiciary.

Court denies stay request over demolitions on Super Highway

Seeks arguments from SBCA, other parties over hotel owners plea The Sindh High Court rejected on Tuesday a plea seeking stay on the anti-encroachment operation against hotels constructed at Super Highway. The counsel representing the hotel owners maintained that the land on which his clients have constructed the hotels is for both residential and commercial purposes. He contended that the Sindh Building Control Authority s notice pertaining to the demolition of these hotels was illegal. The court remarked that it would hear the arguments of the relevant authorities before issuing any orders on the matter and rejected the request for stay.
