FIA chief vows efforts to provide businessmen online facility for hearings of cases, inquiries

Director General Federal Investigation Agency Dr Sanaullah Abbasi has vowed to make efforts to provide an online facility for conducting hearings in cases and notices issued by FIA circles.
He said this while meeting business community representatives in Karachi on Saturday.
Abbasi, while responding to a KCCI suggestion, held out the assurance that he would look into the possibility of providing an online facility for conducting hearings for members of business community in order to help them avoid travelling all the way to FIA circles in far-flung areas where they were being summoned by officials to clarify their position.

The European Union and Pakistan Business Council should work together to strengthen bilateral trade and economic ties with particular focus on small and medium enterprises (SMEs), said Ambassador of European Union to Pakistan Androulla Kaminara on Friday.
Speaking at a meeting during a visit to the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), the EU ambassador discussed possibilities of further improving EU-Pakistan bilateral trade and said that the European Union was committed to working together to facilitate EU s trade with Karachi and the rest of the country.
EU stresses human, labour rights for GSP Plus

KARACHI: European Union (EU) on Friday underscored the need for Pakistan to ensure implementation of conventions related to human and labour rights to continue benefiting from exports with tax concessions to the bloc.
Talking to the business community, EU Ambassador in Pakistan Androulla Kaminara said Pakistan made improvements in some of the 27 conventions needed for generalised scheme of preferences (GSP) plus.
“There is a need to expedite reforms and steps for legislation on disappearance, torture, abuse and inspection on factories to meet all EU obligations,” Kaminara said during a meeting at the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI).

KARACHI: Business community on Thursday voiced strong regrets over the provincial government’s ‘unfair’ decision to reimpose two-week lockdown on economic activities, advising it to use administrative powers instead to enforce coronavirus preventive rules.
In a strongly-worded joint statement, Businessmen Chairman Group Zubair Motiwala and Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) President Shariq Vohra said millions of people associated with restaurants, hotels, cafes, cinema houses, indoor gyms, indoor sports and inland tourism “will die of starvation instead of dying due to diseases triggered by the pandemic.
“Therefore, the government must understand the gravity of the situation and withdraw the unjust decision to once again close down numerous businesses.”
KARACHI: Former president of Pakistan and senior PML-N leader Mamnoon Husain passed away here on Wednesday, according to family and party leaders. He was in his 80s.
He left behind a widow and three sons. Time of his funeral prayer would be decided later, said Chaudhry Tariq, former coordinator of the former president and PML-N Sindh additional secretary general.
Mamnoon Husain was diagnosed with cancer in February last year and had been under treatment. He was admitted to a private hospital some days ago where he breathed his last.
Chaudhry Tariq and another PML-N leader Nasiruddin Mehmood recalled that Mamnoon Husain received education up to matric level at his home and got admission to Government Commerce College. He did MBA from IBA Karachi.
