Annoyed over loss human lives, crops and property due to depredation by elephants over several months, angry villagers in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district forced their local legislator walk around the affected villages to assess the damage.
Forest department officials were also forced to walk along with Basanti Hembram, MLA of Karanjia constituency in Mayurbhanj.
Residents of Kadamodaka village under Karanjia block had blocked National Highway 220 at Tato over destruction caused by a herd of elephants from neighbouring Jharkhand for the past five months. They were demanding compensation for the loss of lives and property caused by the elephants and wanted the herd moved away from their village.

The victim has been identified as Budhuram Pingua and the accused has been identified as Tuburu Pingua.
The two brothers had a dispute Saturday late night over the distribution of the parental property. Younger brother Tuburu Pingua attacked Budhuram in his arrow in a fit of rage.
The arrow penetrated the chest of the victim leaving him grieviously injured.
Family members rescued his and admitted injured Budhuram at Karanjia sub-divisional hospital for treatment.
Police have detained the accused for questioning and started an investigation into the incident.

In a unique example of upcycle, reuse, and recycle, a 35-year-old farmer in Odisha’s Badamtalia village, has used plastic bottles and rods to design a waterwheel that irrigates his three-acre plot without using any power.
Mahur Tipiria, who discontinued his education after Class 2, told ANI News that he
built the water wheel using the basic law of gravity that sends water flowing downwards. He combined waste plastic bottles, bamboo clumps, wooden planks, two iron beams, and iron rods to build the wheel, which has become a key attraction in the area.
