HAMMOND McNeese softball advanced to the 2021 Southland Conference Tournament championship game here Friday with. 4-1 semifinal victory over regular-season champs and tournament top seed Stephen F. Austin behind another solid pitching performance from freshman Whitney Tate.
McNeese will play the winner of Saturday’s 11 a.m. game. The if-necessary game will be played Sunday, May 16 at a time to be determined.
The Cowgirls (33-24), serving as the visiting team, struck real early in the game when leadoff batter Cori McCrary sent the fourth pitch of the game over the centerfield wall for a solo home run, her 10th of the season to give the Cowgirls an early 1-0 lead. THIBODAUX McNeese softball split a doubleheader at Nicholls here Friday night with the Cowgirls opening the series with a 6-2 win before falling 1-0 in the second game of the doubleheader. The rubber game and the regular-season finale will be at 1 p.m. Saturday.
McNeese (29-24, 17-8 SLC) picked up 10 hits in the opening game win and was held to four hits in the nightcap.
Four Cowgirls picked up two hits apiece in the opener. Haylee Brinlee and Kaylee Lopez continued their hot hitting with Brinlee collecting two doubles and two RBI. Lopez picked up one double and scored two runs. Also picking up two hits in the game was Jil Poullard and Toni Perrin.

LAKE CHARLESâOn a day for its seniors to shine, it was sophomore Haylee Brinlee who provided the last spark. Brinleeâs two-run walk-off home run in the eighth inning lifted McNeese to a 5-3 come from behind win on senior day in the rubber game of its Southland Conference series here Saturday afternoon to give the Cowgirls the 2-1 overall series win.
McNeese welcomed back its 2020 seniors and honored them prior to todayâs game then honored its 2021 seniors following todayâs game.

LAKE CHARLESâTwo out home runs by Haylee Brinlee and Cori McCrary lifted McNeese softball to a 6-1 non-conference win over ULM Wednesday night.
With the win, McNeese improves to 26-22 overall while the Warhawks fall to 14-27.
With the Cowgirls trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the first inning, Kaylee Lopezâs RBI single up the middle scored McCrary to tie the game at one apiece. The Cowgirls added two more runs off a two-out two-run home run over the left-field wall by Brinlee to put the Cowgirls up 3-1. The long ball is Brinleeâs seventh of the year.
