Burnham-On-Sea fire crews called to help base jumper stranded on ledge in Cheddar
Burnham-On-Sea Police and fire crews were called to Cheddar to help in the rescue of a base jumper whose parachute had become caught on a rock ledge.
The Burnham-On-Sea fire station team was called to Tuttors Hill in Cheddar at just before 1pm on Thursday (December 17th).
A spokesman said: “Fire control received a call for a male base jumper whose parachute had become caught on a ledge 10 metres from the ground.”
“Fire appliances from Burnham-On-Sea, Wells, Shepton Mallet and Cheddar attended the incident along with the Aerial Ladder Platform from Bridgwater and Rope Rescue Team from Temple.”
AN INCIDENT involving a dog stranded on sea cliffs has resulted in calls for safety from Whitehaven Coastguard. The lifesaving team has asked dog owners not to try and rescue beloved pets themselves if they suffer a fall or get into trouble by the sea. Whitehaven Coastguard was called to the rescue by CGOC Belfast Coastguard, after reports of a dog being lost, possibly over the cliffs near St Bees, came in. When the team heard that the owner was safe at home, albeit without their dog, they “made the difficult decision” to stand down. The decision was protocol, as there was “no risk to human life and no searchers in the vicinity of the missing dog”.
