Two men and a woman will be sentenced on Monday for the murder of Ipswich man Joe Pooley, whose body was found in the River Gipping.
Sebastian Smith, Sean Palmer and Becki West-Davidson were all convicted of murder by majority verdicts at Ipswich Crown Court in March following 59 hours of jury deliberations.
A fourth defendant, Lisa-Marie Smith, was unanimously cleared of murder and an alternative charge of manslaughter.
The jury retired to consider its verdicts on Friday, February 19, more than four months after the trial began on October 12 and returned its verdicts on March 19.

West Street in Fishguard will be closed every night from 6pm to 6am, this week and into next week, to allow for road surface repairs. The South Wales Trunk Road Agency (SWTRA) said that the A487 trunk road at West Street, between Rope Walk and Clive Road will be closed for the up to five nights, not including Saturday and Sunday. Work is being carried out ‘due to the deterioration of the carriageway surface’ “The road closure is required to ensure the safety of the work force and road users during the surfacing operation,” said the spokesperson. “We would like to apologise for any inconvenience that this may cause.”
First COVID hospital death in 10 days in Lincolnshire
Coronavirus inpatients down 41%

Monday has marked the first COVID-related hospital death in 10 days across Greater Lincolnshire’s hospitals, as inpatient numbers have fallen.
The death was recorded in United Lincolnshire Hospitals Trust (ULHT), which currently stands at 813 deaths in hospitals since the pandemic started.
Hospital spokespeople confirmed as of this morning, six patients were in ULHT facilities with coronavirus and four (one in Grimsby and three in Scunthorpe) in NLAG, a total of 10, down 41% from the start of May.
The last time there a coronavirus death was recorded in Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust (NLAG) was May 7, but before that it had been over a month.
