COVID-19 patient dies in Assam, black fungus infection suspected
The 27-year-old male patient was admitted to the hospital on May 16 in a critical condition and he had all the symptoms of black fungus infection, a senior official said.

GUWAHATI: A COVID-19 recovered patient died of black fungus infection, the first such case reported in Assam, at a private hospital in Guwahati on Wednesday, officials said.
The 27-year-old male patient was admitted to the hospital on May 16 in a critical condition and he had all the symptoms of black fungus infection, the hospital said in a statement.
The NHM said 1,347 more COVID-19 patients have died in the state till now, but the government s Death Audit Board has not included them in the toll as they had other ailments.

Guwahati: Guwahati has now become a hotspot of coronavirus in the state as the city has recorded 17,690 positive cases in 20 days with more than 100 fatalities. Assam has reported 28,060 COVID-19 positive cases while Kamrup Metro alone reported 12,254 positive cases in last 10 days.
Amid rising COVID cases in Kamrup metro, the Kamrup Metropolitan district administration has identified the eight (8) worst-affected areas as per the government s directive.

GUWAHATI: Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has sounded an alert saying that the COVID-19 situation across the State is turning critical with the numbers of both the positive cases and deaths increasing.
Sarma told reporters here on Tuesday that the situation would turn worse if the people do not become alert and adhere to the COVID-safety protocols. He also pointed out that the number of COVID-19 positive cases and deaths increased alarmingly since the last one week.
Meanwhile, the Kamrup Metropolitan district has recorded 11,652 positive cases during the last 10 days. On the other hand, the State registered 159 deaths due to COVID-19 infection in the last six days.
