A number of areas in the regions of Caraga and Davao were placed under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal 2 as Crising was upgraded to a tropical storm, the weather bureau said Thursday.
May 13, 2021 DAVAO City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio suspended all classes and encouraged the adoption of full work-from-home arrangement in all government offices on May 14 and 15 due to Tropical Storm “Crising.”
Duterte-Carpio, through Proclamation Order 1 issued on Thursday afternoon, May 13, declared the suspension of all public and private school classes from kindergarten to postgraduate studies.
The mayor also ordered the adoption of the full work-from-home arrangement in all government offices, both national and local government offices, including government-owned and controlled corporations, except the safety and security, health, social services, and disaster offices who are performing emergency, disaster preparedness, and response duties and Covid-19 response and vaccination activities.

+ May 12, 2021 HOUSE Bill No. 147, which seeks to create a second legislative district for Bacolod, is still pending in the House Committee on Local Government for a committee hearing as it awaits the concurrence of the City of Bacolod through the approval of the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) resolution stating its support in the legislative measures, Bacolod Lone District Representative Greg Gasataya said.
In his letter dated May 5 and addressed to Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran and the members of the SP, Gasataya, who authored the bill, said the House Committee on Local Government awaits the concurrence of the City of Bacolod through the approval of the SP.

Groups press SC to prevent more deaths of political prisoners

MANILA – With the death of yet another political prisoner, human rights group KAPATID called on Supreme Court Chief Justice Alexander Gesmundo’s intervention to prevent more deaths, and to order an inspection of all prison facilities including quarantine centers.
KAPATID issued the call hours after peasant leader Joseph Canlas died, the fourth political prisoner to pass away during the pandemic. Canlas, chairperson of Alyansa ng Magbubukid sa Gitnang Luson was arrested on March 30 and charged with illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.
